Energy Saving Tips

| Tuesday, April 27, 2010
Remember my tips in saving water? Guess what? They really worked, reduced our bills into half! Now, I have to share more green tips that I personally apply at home.

Our electric bill used to range from P1500 to P1800 each month. After some energy saving steps, our bills literally dropped some digits. For instance, our March bill for our unit here in Manila is P772. On the other hand, I only paid a total of P15 from our February to March consumption for our weekend house in Bulacan. Amazing isn't it? Try these following energy saving tips. They might also help you cut your electric bills.

1. Turn off the radio if the TV or computer is on.
2. Use natural light by pushing the curtains to the sides during the day.
3. After dark, you may avoid turning on your lampshades by relying on the illuminating light coming from the outside.
4. Choose light bulbs with low wattage.
5. Use incandescent bulbs instead of compact fluorescent lamps.
6. Machine wash your clothes in full loads once a week.
7. Hang clothes to dry on sunny or windy days.
8. Iron clothes just once a week.
9. Press light materials like hankies after switching off the iron during the last minutes of ironing.
10. No need to iron all clothes. Some clothes require only a careful folding.
11. No need to preheat the oven in baking.
12. Let hot foods cool down before putting them in the fridge.
13. Do not use aircon as much as possible.
14. Steady the electric fan.
15. Unplug all electronic appliances when not in use.

Pasta or Cookies?

| Monday, April 19, 2010
This is a very interesting kind of pastry. In Turkish cuisine, they call this tea time treat as "kuru pasta". I know, it doesn't look anything like a dish from your regular Italian menu. The taste is never like fettuccine nor penne, too. As you can see, they're looking similar to cookies, but they taste like a bread-- only healthier because they're made from flour, yogurt, and herbs.

Hubby introduced me to this pastry last weekend. Actually, he's been asking me to bake some "kuru pasta" at home. I was able to find a recipe in English, but I am yet to gather the ingredients. I don't have all the kind of herbs I needed to add flavor to it, so I think he has to wait until the weekend. Um.. we'll see.

Baby Hair Accessories

| Thursday, April 15, 2010
Babies are usually born with less hair. If a baby girl is not wearing something pink, we sometimes fail to identify its gender. Thanks to baby hair accessories. We can do a number of things to style our baby's hair. Nowadays, there are so many cheap clips, headbands, ribbons and bows available in stores everywhere.

These are some of my daughter's baby hair accessories. I love how cute looking my little one is when wearing the pink heart clips. Check her photos HERE and HERE. I can't use the ponytail holder and tiny clamps yet because she can't hold a minute with them. She usually pulls them out right after I attach to her hair. It can be frustrating at times 'cause I have more hair accessories in her drawer. I even made a very cute headband for her. Remember THIS?

SALT (The Movie)

| Sunday, April 11, 2010
This upcoming movie is one of the most awaited of the year. A must watch for those who are interested in action and thriller and for those who are big fans of Angelina Jolie. Salt is about a CIA agent who is accused of being a Russian spy and becomes a federal fugitive. It will be in cinemas in North America on July 2010 and August 2010 in the UK.

My kind of movie. I hope it will be here soon. I really, really want to watch it!

Honestly, I used to be a very stingy person when it comes to watching movies. Back in college or even after college, I never bought tickets for the big screen 'cos I considered it just a waste of money. My bad.. I know, but I would rather eat out or go shopping instead of spending on movies back then.

When I met my hubby, things have changed. After telling me how expensive the movie tickets are in Turkey, I felt luckier that in the Philippines, it is just as cheap as one happy meal. So cheap that sometimes, they can be almost free! Thanks to the Citibank's free movie passes. These days, hubby and I get to enjoy watching movies every weekend again.

Thanks Mr. G!

| Thursday, April 8, 2010
Hi ladies! You know I don't always blog about my Google pay, but this time, I just feel like posting my haul again because most of them are cute and pink and lovely. Big, big thanks to Mr. G.

Philip CD Player for the love of music. I know it's red. What can I do? It's not available in pink.

Kid Basix Summer Dress and Cotton Stuff pairs for my little one. Baleno shirt for hubby.

And these are all for me. Pink bamboo fan, Pond's Whitening Cream, Strawberry Hot Oil, Victoria Secret Body Mist, purple comb, Maybelline Powder, and white hair clamp from Want Women Want.

I spotted this pink squeaky Winnie the Pooh & Friends chair from a bazaar in Guadalupe. It was very cheap there. My daughter loves this very much because it creates a funny sound everytime she sits on it. Just look at the expression on her face :D

(Not So) Red Velvet Cake

| Tuesday, April 6, 2010
Things went crazy. I was suppose to publish this last month, but I deleted it in my drafts. So, here I am now, trying to recall my post again.

I made this lovely cake for my cousin who celebrated her birthday last month. This is from Bakerella's website. You know, I've been spending my time reading her blogs, checking her very cute creations (which I always wish I could ever taste), and entering her giveaways.

Clockwise: the cake fresh from the oven, pink frosting almost done, a slice to those who can't wait, the refrigerated version, and my daughter enjoying her share.

The reason why I call it the (Not So) Red Velvet Cake is because I did not follow the original recipe which was calling for 2 ounces of red food coloring. I also reduced the amount of sugar and the oil. I know I am a little adventurous in baking, but that's where the fun is. I did not even come up with a perfect cream cheese frosting. Blame it on my carelessness because I took the wrong sugar from the grocery. I failed to notice it until I was already home. I mistakenly lifted a box of caster sugar instead of confectioner's sugar from the shelf. Duh!

Anyway, if you wish to make a red velvet cake like this, just click HERE for the recipe. I swear. It is yummy!

Bridal Shower Gift

| Thursday, April 1, 2010
I was invited to a bridal shower party with an erotic theme and a kinky gift requirement the other week. I haven't been to any bridal shower in my life, so I got a little excited to go shopping for a gift. Planning of buying something sexy and cute, my feet once again dragged me to the intimate section of Landmark in Trinoma. After almost half an hour of carefully checking the designs, I was able to go home with 4 items, including these pink pairs from Victoria's Secret.

At the party, two of my friends and I were the last ones to come. We arrived like 8:30 PM already. I noticed that most of us did not bother to follow the dress code, though. Everybody was asked to come in a sexy dress or daring lingerie. Look what happened. Click to watch the film strip below.
