Philippine Seafood

>> Monday, February 22, 2010

Philippines is an archipelago of thousands of islands surrounded with water that's why it has rich marine life that boasts a wide variety fish, clams, mollusks, shells, and other sea creatures.

As a Filipino, I get to eat fish more than once a week. Aside from fish, I also love eating shrimps, squids, octopus, clams, etc. This afternoon, I took another trip to the nearest wet market to buy my weekly supply of seafood. I bought a kilo of tanigue for steak. I'm not sure how to call that in English, but Google says it's Spanish mackerel. I also bought half kilo of hasa-hasa (another variety of mackerel). Before hitting the vegetable section, I added half a kilo of shrimp for sinigang and another half of sikad-sikad in my basket. Again, I don't know the English name of sikad-sikad, but in the picture above, that's the one in yellow-orange tray at the front row.

Here are the photos of different kinds of seaweeds available in the same market. I'm not a big fan of these guys, though. Never that I added them to my menu. I saw locals use these in salads, some even cook them with vegetables or meat, but for me, they just don't look edible.

How about you? Do you eat seafood?

Sis, pinagutom mo naman ako. I also love seafood. I guess it is the Ilocano blood in me that makes me love seafood. Super like ko yang sikad-sikad. Masarap sya ilaga together with the seaweeds. Yum! I'm still having a difficult time introducing seafood to my Hubby. They're Igorots kasi and they're not used to eating seafood. Yung mga common fish lang ang kinakain nila like tilapia, bangus, galunggong. The rest, they won't eat. I hope Jamjam will like seafood when she grows up.

Lots of love,
