sweet⋅sop [sweet-sop] noun
- a sweet, pulpy fruit having a thin, tuberculate rind, borne by a tropical American tree or shrub, Annona squamosa, of the annona family.
- the tree or shrub.
- also called sugar apple.
This fruit is one of my favorite fruits in the tropical world. I love its sweet starchy and pulpy flesh a lot. Locally, we call this fruit "atis".
I took this photo of a ripe sweet sop last vacay. After taking the photo, I actually shared this very fruit with my daughter. And guess what? She liked the taste so much that she kept on hugging me for more.
Like 3 days ago, my brother texted me about their fresh picks of fruits. So, I missed the sweet sop right away. Hubby has been telling me to get some from a fruit stand nearby, but I don't know. It's just that the sweet sops you can find among the markets here in the metro don't taste the same with the ones we have in the province. I mean, nothing beats those freshly picked ripened produce from the trees. I swear.
