There is one S&R in Taguig, just a little ahead of Metro Market Market if you are going to take the C5 road from Kalayaan or J.P.Rizal Extn. It is a big grocery like Macro or Uniwide, selling wholesale items from detergents to imported chocolates, appliances and other home decors, gourmet meals, etc.
It is a membership store, but they also accept guests. Upon entering the entrance you have to go straight to the customer service post and apply for a guest membership. Guest membership will make you pay an additional 5% on your total purchase. It is free, but valid for one day only.
I have never been to S&R. I only saw its interior on TV and the exterior every now and then that I go to Pembo via Ayala or Forbes. Since we usually spend around $50 and up everytime we go to the grocery, a Korean friend suggested to try S&R. He said, in every purchase of over $50, we can save up to 25%.
Last Saturday, we hailed a taxi to S&R Global City Taguig after visiting my cousins in Pembo. We took a guest membership and started looking around. My babe and I already agreed that we will spend only around P7000 for groceries that day.
Inside the store, I noticed that they have a lot of imported holiday cakes and chocolates. They also have a selection of branded clothes, bags, towels, and the like. I guess that's why people shopping in that store are mostly foreigners and families with above average household income.
I checked the prices of milk, shampoo, and other toiletries. I tried comparing the prices with SM and Robinson, too. It turned out that items from S&R are more expensive. For example, Aşkım's milk, NAN HW ONE is around P820 in SM, and P835 in Robinsons. Guess what, it was around P870 in S&R! Häagen-Dazs is around P337 in Robinsons, but it was P377 there.
My babe grabbed some jellies, biscuits, chocolates and candies already while I remained observing. After 30 minutes or so, Aşkım started crying so we were forced to stop shopping and went to the waiting area to give her milk.
While preparing milk for Aşkım, Erdal checked the food counter and discovered Italian gourmet. I told him to buy something to eat, so after that we could just go home.
We considered going out of that grocery store without buying any item (aside from the gourmet food) for some reason. First, it was hard to shop while holding Aşkım at the same time. Second, my feet was already hurting and we were starving as well. Lastly, the prices weren't reasonable at all!
After eating pizza and some gourmet bread, we went straight to Robinsons Pioneer that afternoon. We ended up buying grocery there, paid P6000, and got raffle tickets in return.
