After two years, my babe and I went back to La Mesa Eco Park with a Turkish friend and his family. I cooked spaghetti and rice to bring to the picnic then we took MRT from Boni to Trinoma at 10 AM to see Mustafa and Rabiah with her daughter Ram. After the meeting, we drove off to Fairview.
It is easy to go to Eco Park on weekends specially Sundays when there is no heavy traffic. We made it to the park at around 11 AM. The park was not very crowded, but just a few groups of tourists, foreigners, campers, and picnickers like us.
We rented table and chairs and started the fire for the chicken barbecue while eating spaghetti and the Turkish breakfast that Mustafa prepared. The boys started grilling tomatoes, onions, bell peppers, and chicken while having their meals. It was a bit hard for them to start the fire, so I helped a bit. The late breakfast was immediately followed by lunch because we got very hungry. After sharing the grilled chicken in various flavors, we started to feast on the bananas and watermelon.
After lunch, the boys went fishing at the nearby pond. Mustafa led Erdal to the guy selling worms and fishing rods. Well, the next thing was the screaming of excitement. My babe caught a small fish for the first time. Unfortunately, it was able to free itself from the hook the moment he lifted the rod. He was very happy to get two tilapias after that. They were so tiny, so we decided to just throw them back to the water. We weren't able to swim as planned because Mustafa, Rabiah, and her daughter didn't bring swimsuits. We ended chatting and taking pictures the whole time.
Eco Park has a lot of affordable services to offer to its visitors and they are the following:
Lopez Picnic Grounds – Five hectares of picnic spots with grilling facilities underneath a forest of varied trees.
Salt Water Swimming Pool – Probably the only salt water pool that is open to the public. Salt granules are used instead of chlorine making the water safer and less toxic.
Superferry Boating Lagoon – To experience and enjoy a paddle boat ride, one once had to trek all the way to Baguio’s Burnham Park to do so. Now this popular activity is available right here in Quezon City.
Fishing Lagoon – Fishing is another very popular to-do at the park.
Petron Fitness and Mountain Bike Trail – Here, one can enjoy a full-body workout under the shade of trees. The fitness trail has 17 exercise stations and connects to a forested 1.2 km mountain bike trail.
Shell Flower Terraces – Two hectares of flower terraces. This is actually the dam wall of the reservoir.
Ecomuseum – A museum dedicated to environmental education and biodiversity conservation.
Butterfly Trail and Hatchery – An educational walk through the wonderful, colorful world of butterflies.
Various pavilions for rent are available for private functions.
Overnight camping facilities also available.
Other facilities coming soon are:
Adventure Zone Team Building Facility
Mini-Golf Course
The entrance fee for Quezon City residents is Php 40 and Php 50 for those coming outside of QC. The Swimming pool entrance is just Php 80 per person and I think the price is half for kids.
