How to Spot a Fake Bag

| Tuesday, January 22, 2008
In the Philippines, like any other Asian countries, you can find fake or imitation bags for sale everywhere. Say for example in Greenbelt, San Juan. That place is the haven of fake products here in Manila. You can find imitations of Nike, Adidas, Lacoste, Guess, Burberry, etc. from purses and handbags to shoes and clothes. They are so cheap that even foreigners come to that place to buy and bring them home as souvenirs or "pasalubong".

I have a coworker who received a Louis Vuitton bag from a Chinese friend as a gift. That friend of hers is a businesswoman. They are running a factory of fake signature bags in China. My coworker asked me to check the bag and boy oh boy, though she claimed that her friend produces replica bags, I think it's still easy to spot that the bag is fake.

Okay, I never had an authentic Louis Vuitton bag, but because of the bag's poor quality, lack of attention to details, discoloration, etc. I swore to her that I am right. Anything fake cannot fool me that easy. Thanks to Tyra Banks and her show. I learned more tips on how to spot a fake through her. She mentioned that in US, it is illegal to sell fake stuff, but it is not against the law to buy one. In Europe esp. France, both are illegal. In the Philippines? Nobody cares if it is illegal or not! They are just anywhere. Even your coworker will offer to buy some of her imitation purses from Hong Kong.

Look at this bag. This is the exact bag that my coworker got from her Chinese friend. Notice the poor lining of the product, the rough surface of the leather, and the thread still uncut from sewing.
